what to expect on the river

The Pere Marquette River has an average depth of 3-4 feet and is approximately 30-40 feet wide. It has a sandy bottom and a slow, gentle current making it a great river for families and beginners. However, if you have no experience at all, we recommend learning on a lake before you try kayaking on a river. You may encounter deep holes, log jams and downed limbs to maneuver around, but the river is kept open and clear for floaters and boaters. It is most easily navigated by kayak. Tubers have more difficulty steering through it's curves and obstacles, which is why we no longer rent tubes. You do not need permits to travel our section of the river. Wildlife is abundant but expect other floaters on hot summer weekends. The riverbank between Custer and Ludington is almost entirely private property. There are no rest areas between bridges.
How it Works:
You come to us. Park your vehicle at our private campground. We bus you upstream to Custer Bridge where our friendly staff will assist you into the river. Leisurely float back down to Henry's Landing where your vehicle is parked. There's no bus to catch at the end so take your time getting back! Our schedule changes depending on the season so please call ahead to check on run times. No rentals after Labor Day, but we do spot vehicles year round if you have your own gear.

Each rental includes free parking, transportation (24 passenger bus), paddles, flotation device and friendly service. All equipment is cleaned after each use.
Our kayak fleet consists of Jackson Rivieras (tandem and single) and Old Town loons and otters. Our canoes are Michicraft and Old Town. Our SUP boards are Jackson Super Naturals.
